We currently have the opportunity to recruit a Specialist Engineer – Software Development based within Process Control & Automation (PC&A) department at our site in Llanwern site.

The Role

The PC&A department provides Process Control and Automation services to the Strip UK Hub, which must be achieved through efficient practices and processes, whilst focusing on safe operations The position report directly to the Area Engineering Manager – PC&A. It primarily exists to ensure that we maintain and develop systems and software within Llanwern Process Control Central Systems Team.

Within the role, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Ensure the Safety, Health & Welfare of staff and care for the environment.
  • Ensure that all tasks are completed to plan, quality and cost.
  • Use standards that must be adhered to and implement ensuring that compliance of statutory regulations is maintained.
  • Ensure that all work is monitored and reported effectively to Section Engineer whilst driving continuous improvement through auditing of systems.
  • Ensure that all systems, procedures and documentation are kept up to date on the correct internal computer systems.
  • Carry out investigations, including failure identification and root cause investigations, prepares reports, to support both the resolution of problems and engineering improvements.
  • Work as part of a team and ensure use of the departmental Quality system effectively and that all feedback is used for continuous improvement.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure that potential savings are realised relating to work undertaken.
  • Sharing of knowledge amongst team members to ensure skill levels are raised.

The Candidate

To be considered for the opportunity, you should be preferably be educated to Degree level, with membership of a Professional Institution (IMechE, IET, BCS), ideally chartered or actively working towards chartered status A sound knowledge of process control and automation in heavy plant applications, manufacturing IT standards and practices.  Also, a good knowledge of Microsoft.Net development and in particular C#/ASP.Net and Microsoft SQL server is required. SCADA, PLC and basic network knowledge would be a benefit.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven record of writing software and problem solving experience is essential
